We can now say FC Barcelona is officially the best football team in the world, three of its players were nominated to have the great chance of winning the Ballon d’Or this year, bothIniesta and Xavi were really sucesfull last year – Iniesta scored the winning goal at the World Cup final against the Netherlands and Xavi was also an important cornerstone to the natioanl team of Spain and to FC Barcelona as well – but ultimately Messi won the FIFA Ballon d’Or last night in Zurich.
Messi obtained 22.65 per cent of the votes for the Ballon d’Or, beating out Iniesta‘s 17.36 per cent and Xavi‘s 16.48 per cent. Check out the votes here.
He won the FIFA Player of the Year award and the Ballon d’Or prize last year as well, these two have now finally merged into this one Ballon d’Or award. Messi has won the Ballon d’Ortwice in a row (2009, 2010) which really rarely happens to any football players, althoughRonaldinho won FIFA Player of the Year prize twice in 2004 and 2005, while he was also playing for FC Barcelona.
With this honour and his performance we can easily say that Lionel Messi is the most gifted football player of this era and really deserved the Ballon d’Or again. In 2010 he scored 60 goals in total to his club and country, he was also La Liga’s top scorer, 34 goals in 35 appearances!
