On 28 January 2011, Ajax accepted a £23 million (€26.5 million) offer for Suárez from Premier League club Liverpool F.C..The following day, Suárez passed his medical and signed a five and a half-year deal that will keep him with the club until 2016.He became the club's record signing for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes until the arrival of Andy Carroll from Newcastle United.Suárez made his Liverpool debut on 2 February against Stoke City at Anfield, coming off the bench in the 63rd minute to score Liverpool's second goal in front of the Kop as they won 2–0.Suárez started his first game for Liverpool against Wigan Athletic on 12 February 2011, he gained the LFC.TV MOTM award for his performance. On the 20 February 2011, Suárez travelled back to the Amsterdam ArenA for an emotional farewell to the AFC Ajax players and their supporters. Suárez stated that Ajax would always be in his heart and was given a 10 minute standing ovation from the fans who then sang the Liverpool anthem "You'll Never Walk Alone."In his next game, Suárez assisted Glen Johnson with a goal to pull a goal back after going 2–0 down against West Ham United, however Liverpool went on to lose the match 3–1. Suárez assisted two of Dirk Kuyt's three goals as Liverpool beat Manchester United 3–1 on 6 March 2011.On 20 March 2011, in a game against Sunderland, Suárez scored his second Liverpool goal from a tight angle, making the score 2-0 to Liverpool.
